    About Me

Hi, I’m Miranda Harrington, a HCPC-registered podiatrist based in Headingley, Leeds. I qualified with a BSc in Podiatry from the University of Huddersfield in 2014 and have over ten years’ experience working in both the NHS and private practice. I’m also a member of the Royal College of Podiatry and have additional training in medical acupuncture through the Breeze Academy.

I decided to start practising independently for several reasons, particularly regarding orthotic treatment. In some clinical settings, custom orthotics simply aren’t part of the service, while in others they may be offered as the default option. From a patient’s perspective, this can be frustrating. If the insoles you’ve been given don’t work or fit properly, you often have to start the whole process again elsewhere.

My work primarily focuses on straightforward biomechanical foot problems, such as heel pain. Many people try off-the-shelf insoles but find they don’t fit properly, while fully bespoke orthotics can sometimes cost hundreds of pounds. It’s common for patients to tell me they’ve accumulated several pairs of insoles over the years, now sitting unused at the bottom of a drawer.

As part of my assessment, I will always consider whether a well-fitted off-the-shelf insole is appropriate. In many cases, these can be an effective and more cost-conscious option when properly selected and adjusted. Where a more tailored approach is needed, I can prescribe custom orthotics based on your individual foot structure and symptoms.

When I inquire about how previous orthotics were made, the answer is often a foam box impression. This method involves pressing the foot into a foam block to capture its shape, but it tends to record the foot exactly as it presents, including underlying issues, rather than positioning it for optimal function.

Instead, I carry out a full clinical assessment and take off-weightbearing casts. This allows me to position the foot in a more optimal alignment before orthotics are crafted, supporting more comfortable and efficient walking. My aim is to recommend the most appropriate option for you, whether that is simple advice, an off-the-shelf insole, or a custom-made device.

In addition to orthotic therapy, I also offer medical acupuncture, which can be beneficial in managing pain and supporting recovery. I plan to write more about acupuncture in a future blog post.

Common problems I help with include:
    • Heel pain
    • Plantar fasciitis
    • Achilles tendon pain
    • Painful flat feet
    • Bunions
    • Ball of foot pain
    • Sore arches
    • Foot pain when walking

I see patients from Headingley, Leeds, Horsforth, Kirkstall, Meanwood, and the surrounding areas.

My clinic is located at Leeds Complementary Therapy Centre on Otley Road, Leeds.
